About the Editor
Creating a website from scratch can be a daunting task. When alltheatre.com.au went live back in April 2015, the lack of content was a bit disconcerting. Over the first year, with my loyal partner and Webmaster, Mike Parker, I published roughly a story a week online. These days I am better equipped, with my Canon 6D camera, and a number of regular theatre contacts.
But where did it all come from? I honestly can say I have had a lifelong passion for the arts - visual, performing and literary. In my last job, as a journalist at the North Shore Times, I covered the community arts round for four years. This was a dream job really, also enabling me to combine my love of theatre, with my creative writing skills. In 1997 I graduated from Charles Sturt University-Bathurst, with a journalism degree. But my first job out of university was in media production, making educational resources for Open Training and Education Network (OTEN), a branch of TAFE NSW. |

In 2001 I moved to the Bay Area of California, to be with Mike, my future husband. While Mike worked as an I.T. contractor with NASA, I volunteered with the American Red Cross and Environmental Volunteers. I also tried my hand at various casual jobs: working at the infamous Pottery Barn, the highly-regarded Stanford University, as well as a floral designer, and freelance writing, before finally settling into a job at the picturesque lakeside Shoreline Aquatic Center, where I learnt to sail (and evict skunks), as a job perk.
Wherever I worked, however, I enjoyed the ability to write, whether it was writing a volunteer profile for the Red Cross, or publishing the Shoreline newspaper. So it was only a matter of time, on my return to Sydney in December 2006, before I landed work experience, which resulted in a full-time reporter position at my local newspaper, the North Shore Times.
Community journalism is another one of my passions, yielding tangible outcomes, and enabling me to reach out and get to know the people who live in my area. In a similar way, community theatre reaches out to the general populace, offering usually affordable, but often high-quality entertainment, and nurturing the talent of local artists.
So the All Theatre website is a win-win for local artists and me!
